Stag and Hen Weekends in Tossa De Mar: the Costa Brava Gem

Stags and hens looking for a weekend to remember in the Spanish sunshine where exuberant activities take precedence over drink-fuelled revelry will love Tossa de Mar, a charming resort nestled into Spain’s rugged Costa Brava.

Tossa de Mar is one of the quieter resorts on the Costa Brava and has remained relatively unaffected by tourism and unspoilt by the monstrous high rise hotels that consume other parts of the Spanish coastline. With its medieval castle-like old town towering over the beach plus quaint, winding streets dotted with intriguing bars and boutiques offering a plethora of retail opportunities, it is not difficult to see why Tossa de Mar has become one of the most popular choices for the more discerning stag or hen looking to party in Spain.

Tossa is conveniently located just a short drive from Girona airport which is served by Ryan Air. Barcelona Airport is a 90 minute drive away but it offers a wider range of flight options.

Things to do on your stag or hen weekend in Tossa de Mar

Here are just a few activities that will make your weekend one to remember!

Paintballing and Quad Biking
Tossa is home to one of Europe’s top paintball sites which has hosted several world championships. Why not spend a couple of hours haring around the picturesque Costa Brava woodland, peppering your mates with fluorescent paint and then afterwards get yourself off into the mountains for some real life dusty mountain track quad biking?

Power Boating
Take an exhilarating trip on a speedboat and feel the wind in your hair as you skim the waves and witness the awe of the towering, rugged cliffs for which the Costa Brava is renowned before stopping off at some of the secluded bays and romantic smugglers’ coves along the way.

Archery
Hidden away along the Tossa coastline in a wonderful cove sits a fantastic archery centre where expert archery tuition is on offer. Highly enjoyable and very competitive, this activity is suitable for complete beginners, and perfect for Robin Hood and his Merry Stags!

Scuba Diving
The crystal clear waters surrounding Tossa de Mar are a divers’ favourite where you will find a myriad islets, islands, caves and reefs, perfect for the scuba diving enthusiast.

Wining & Dining
After an action packed day you will of course be looking for the perfect evening to round it off. Tossa de Mar is a food-lover’s paradise with dozens of restaurants to choose from. From mouth watering fresh fish and seafood to typical Spanish dishes like Paella; from Italian to Chinese; Wimpy to all day breakfasts; you really have got it all here in Tossa.

After your meal you can move on through a string of buzzing bars and cosy clubs that are open into the small hours and because Tossa is not a typical rowdy drinking destination that means you will not run into trouble from other parties.

Hens and stags looking for culture by day and a more subtle form of fun by night will quite simply love Tossa de Mar!

Archery--How can I stop hitting my arm?!!!!?

I just took up traditional archery at a local club, and I am having a really hard time not hitting my arm. We are using compositie recurve bows. My teacher has given me suggestions to try and stop doing it, but it keeps happening. I have really long arms and flexible joints, and I can't seem to rotate it out of the way. I'm wearing an arm guard, but it's still bruising my arm really severely, and last time my string actually got caught on the end of the guard, which bruised my upper arm and then lashed my knuckles on the way back. I love archery, but I don't want to look like a banged up streetfighter all the time! Does anyone have any tips, or have any links with PICTURES, or additional suggestions beyond the arm guard for protecting myself? Thanks :)

The quickest remedy is to slightly bend your elbow. If you let your arm hang, just stand up straight and let your arm relax it will be bent ever so slightly. This is the amount of bend needed. But that is not a long run strategy, because you won't be able to shoot well with your bow elbow bent.

The true fix to this is to train your muscles so that when you extend your bow arm it doesn't hyper extend, I assume that is the issue here as I can't see your form. That means building up the muscles in that area. Do some bicep curls, and pushups(do not extend your arm all the way when you come up on those pushups keep it slightly bent). This is if your elbow is really super elastic, I've seen a guy who can reach over his head and wrap his hand all the way down the other side of the body to his arm pit.

The other possibility is to rotate the elbow out of the way. A simple excercise will work here, lean against a doorway with your bow arm, just like you're holding a bow. Your weight on your arm will simulate the weight of the bow. Now rotate your elbow over and over again. Do this everyday, eventually you will develop your lat muscles to automatically rotate that elbow out of the way of the string.

Another possible problem is your shoulder, make sure your bow shoulder is not hyper extended. The bones in your arm should be in line with the bones in your shoulder. Have a buddy hold an arrow across your shoulder at full draw. Your arms should be in line with that arrow. If your arm is at an angle to that arrow that means something is off with your alignment. Relax the bow shoulder and keep it down.

But it will take time to develop those muscles, to stop the pain immediately I suggest the bent elbow method and buy yourself a long arm guard. There are arm guards that go up all the way to your shoulder almost. Good luck, I hope that helps and good shooting.
